In 2018, The Sentencing Project discussed status offenses and other juvenile justice issues with students at Cesar Chavez Charter High School in Washington D.C. Afterwards, Chavez students created, directed and wrote a spoken word video.

Status offenses are a category of behaviors that are illegal only because of a youth’s status as a minor (like truancy, violating curfew, and underage drinking).
