Request for a Thematic Hearing on Life Imprisonment in the Americas

The Sentencing Project, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and Penal Reform International submitted a request to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) for a thematic hearing on life imprisonment in the Organization of American States (OAS) region.

The Sentencing Project, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and Penal Reform International submitted a request to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) for a thematic hearing on life imprisonment in the Organization of American States (OAS) region. This hearing is intended to provide the Commission with information on the use of life imprisonment in the United States and other OAS member states, the harm it causes, and the steps member states need to take to ensure that their practices comply with applicable human rights standards.
