Civic Power: Democracy Unchained!
Civic Power: Democracy Unchained was held in July 2025 in Chicago, IL.
Civic engagement is essential to an inclusive democracy. More than 4 million people were disenfranchised from voting in 2024, despite 26 states and Washington DC expanding voting rights to persons with felony convictions since 1997.
2025 marks the third year The Sentencing Project hosted Civic Power convenings with advocacy, academic, justice-impacted and philanthropy partners. This year, Civic Power brought together 132 advocacy organizers, researchers, communications specialists and others in Chicago to build on recent efforts to expand the vote and challenge mass incarceration. We would like to thank everyone who participated, including attendees, speakers, session organizers, sponsors, and our Convening Planning Committee.
