Before joining The Sentencing Project, Sara directly represented indigent clients in resentencing proceedings in a variety of contexts. She represented incarcerated clients facing and sentenced to death in capital cases at the Habeas Corpus Resource Center, the Federal Community Defender for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, and in private practice, and served as a mitigation specialist with federal capital trial and resentencing teams under Washington, DC’s Incarceration Reduction Amendment Act. She served in the Conviction Integrity Unit of the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, collaborating with defense attorneys to persuade courts to vacate unjust convictions and recommending more appropriate sentences through recharging and commutation proceedings. Sara earned her undergraduate degree from Pomona College and her juris doctorate from Stanford Law School.
