Dinesh Napal

Research Consultant

Dinesh is a research consultant with The Sentencing Project supporting activities relating to voting rights, extreme sentencing and youth justice. Since early 2025, he has written a number of briefings for The Sentencing Project on disenfranchisement of justice-impacted people across different states, and has developed the updated report on incarcerated women and girls.

Before joining The Sentencing Project, Dr. Napal worked on issues relating to the protection of civilians and human rights in armed conflict, reform of the Electoral College system, and the prevention of torture and cruel treatment. He earned his doctorate in international law and armed conflict from American University Washington College of Law in December 2024, and holds an LL.M from SOAS University of London and a BA in Law and Sociology from the University of Warwick.
