Join us in the fight to promote a more humane and equitable U.S. criminal legal system. Your awareness, activism, and support is vital to making a difference to the individuals, families, and communities impacted by mass incarceration.
Take Action
Changing laws and policies to end mass incarceration require a mass movement. Here are ways you can engage at the federal, state, and local levels.
Save Second Chances in DC
The Washington, DC Council is reversing course and considering expanding mandatory minimums, weakening the District’s second chance law, and expanding youth detention, among other concerning provisions. Urge the DC Council to protect second chances and oppose regressive legislation!
Guarantee the Right to Vote in America
Urge legislators to protect voting rights for all! The Democracy Restoration Act would expand voting rights to persons after incarceration including individuals completing their sentence in the community.
End the Ban on Food Stamps for People with Drug Convictions
Urge Congress to end the ban on food stamps for people with drug convictions and pass the RESTORE Act, which would immediately repeal the lifetime federal ban on individuals with felony drug convictions from receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
Support the Safer Detention Act!
The Safer Detention Act would give aging and terminally people in federal prisons the opportunity to seek compassionate relief. It would also reauthorize and expand the Elderly Home Confinement Pilot Program, which would provide another pathway for elderly and sick people to leave prison.
Stop Congress from Building Another Prison in Kentucky
The construction of a new federal prison in Kentucky is a costly and unnecessary proposal, motivated by a desire to create a federal jobs program in eastern Kentucky, not to accommodate the actual needs of the Bureau of Prisons or public safety. Tell your federal lawmakers to cancel funding for another prison in Kentucky!
