Prisons for ProfitLucky Severson, contributing correspondent for the PBS program, “Religion and Ethics Newsweekly,” discussed prison privatization in Louisiana, a state that imprisons more of its people, per capita, than any other state. Severson discussed privatization with Marc Mauer, executive editor of The Sentencing Project, New Orleans Times-Picayune reporter Cindy Chang, and Louisiana corrections officials. “We lock up our citizens at far greater rates than any other industrialized nation or any other kind of nation in the world,” said Mauer. “ Louisiana has been at the top of the pack and just incarcerating people at rates that are just unimaginable any place else in the world.” Click image to view. |
